BIOGRAPHY
Marcos Monteiro, who has the stage name of Hô Monteiro, was born on October 15, 1964 in Porto Alegre/Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil, where he lives and works.
Hô Monteiro always had a great admiration for classical antiquity, Renaissance and Baroque. In this sense, Italy provides a visual aesthetic appeal, that with all the centuries of history and artistic legacy left, has become a place where he visited several times to do his research and capture images, that would later become drawings and paintings; Therefore, cities like Rome and Florence exercised the same fascination about this artist, such as on several other artists and philosophers of history, like Velazquez, Rubens, Stendhal and Goethe, who also went to Italy to live or study instigated by classical culture.
Starting his artistic activities in 1984 in an exhibition between Portuguese and Brazilian artists in his hometown, is only from the first trip to Italy in 1993 that he confirmed and elected the human figure as its main object of study. Since this period, he investigates ways of working with a figurative painting that has a erudition, but that is both contemporary. In this sense, he researches in art history references for his work, carrying fragments of the works of renowned artists, such as Caravaggio, Michelangelo, Bernini or Greco Roman statuary, to situate itself in our contemporaneity, thus changing the original meaning. And it is precisely this disconnected worlds, cultures and ages what interests the artist.
Hô Monteiro is graduated by Fine Arts Institute of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. In 1998 he completed the course in Italian language ACIRS (Associazione Italiana del Rio Grande do Sul). Between 2001 and 2005, was part of the Organizing Committee of the Project "Madonna delle Lacrime", an Italo-Brazilian project, which aimed to paint artistic shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Tears, in the municipality of Caraá/Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil, in 2003 in which the artist, along with the Italian painter Battista Mombrini Treviglio/BG - Italy, runs painting on the walls of this shrine altar.
In 2011, he was invited to a trip to Italy, within the project "ITALY COMES TO YOU", created by ENIT - Ente Nazionale Italiano del Turismo. This project was part of the celebrations of the year Italy in the Brazil, in which there were three exhibitions in São Paulo, Porto Alegre and Rio de Janeiro, respectively, in october and november 2011; exhibition in which each artist showed his impressions of Italy.
His last solo exhibitions were in 2007 - "Pinturas Remanescentes", at the Gravura Galeria de Arte in Porto Alegre, in 2008 "Hô Monteiro - Pinturas" in the Cultural Space of ULBRA/Canoas/Rio Grande do Sul; and 2011 - "Memórias Remanescentes", in Studio Clio Institute of Art and Humanism in Porto Alegre/Rio Grande do Sul, in which the artist presented his newest production: landscapes in oil painting on canvas; Italian cities are landscapes of whose references images of photos, books or postcards, which were collected over time. His last group exhibitions were with the "Grupo de Risco" in 2010 in Iberê Camargo Gallery at Usina do Gasômetro - Porto Alegre/Rio Grande do Sul, in 2011 History Museum in Santa Catarina - Palacio Cruz e Souza/Sala Martinho de Haro - Florianópolis/Santa Catarina, and 2012, at Pinacoteca da FEEVALE/Novo Hamburgo/Rio Grande do Sul.
In the course of his artistic activities, he participated and was invited to several individual and collective exhibitions in Brazil and abroad. Currently has a studio in a charming and historic place in Porto Alegre - Travessa dos Venezianos Street.
